Industry collaboration with students

The master in Molecular Nutrition and Food Technology aims to provide a holistic understanding of the foodchain from farm to the consumer, including raw material quality, ingredients, food technology, nutrition and health. This means that we encourage students to collaborate with the food industry and public institutions during their master.

The students on Molecular Nutrition and Food Technology can collaborate with companies and institutions through

  • Master projects (45-60 ECTS)
  • Company Collaboration project (5 -15 ECTS)

Many Molecular Nutrition and Food Technology candidates will pursue their carreer in the food industryCollaboration with the industry during the studies is the best preparation for this carreer.

Master projects

The master in Molecular Nutrition and Food Technology is concluded with a thesis of 45 or 60 ECTS, which means that the student work from 7.5 – 10 months on the thesis project. This project can be done in collaboration with companies, with the benefit of both the student and the company. The company gets the chance to establish in depth projects and test hypothesis, and the student get experience with the combination of theory and praxis,  addressing challenges in a production environment.

For a master project, there will be a researcher allocated from the department as the main supervisor, and in collaboration with the company supervisor and the student, they describe the project aims and the project plan.

Department of Food Science has made an idea platform with projects as inspiration for students. The idea platform contains project ideas both from the industry as well as research environments.

If you have a project idea please contact

  • Company contact responsible Associate professor Margrethe Therkildsen, ph. 22167975, Margrethe.therkildsen@food.au.dk

  • Please also consider to use the AU Job- and project bank to search for students or announce projects and jobs.

Company collaboration projects

During the master program the student might want to use 5 to 15 ECTS on an elective course. This can be a Company Collaboration Project, where the student becomes part of specific tasks in the company. The student get the opportunity to use their knowledge, theories and methods outside the University. This stimulates the competences such as creativity, independence and collaboration and the student gets inspiration for the future work life.

For the company, Company Collaboration Projects is a chance to expose their company towards students, get access to new knowledge and new talent and establish collaboration with Department of Food Science, Aarhus University. Often a student project can be the first step for future research collaboration projects.

In a Company Collaboration Project, there will be a researcher allocated from the department as the main supervisor, and in collaboration with the company supervisor and the student, they describe the project aims and the project plan.
