  1. Field Intelligence for Regenerative Agriculture and Sustainability in Potato Farming

    Mesfin Tsegaye Gebremikael

Conventional potato cultivation relies heavily on intensive tillage, chemical fertilisers, pesticides, and irrigation to achieve optimal growth and quality, all of which contribute to soil degradation, carbon loss, and diminished biodiversity. There is a need to transition to a more sustainable production system such as regenerative practices that focuses on soil health.

Such transition needs advanced digital tools for precision agriculture and decision-making that will guide farmers toward efficient regenerative cultivation practices while: a) derisking transition costs, b) improving profitability through data driven optimisation of inputs, yields, and quality, and c) increasing potato solid content with minimised losses.

FIRST Potato aims at optimizing potato cultivation practices through an AI-powered decision support system provided by Cropin to minimize potato (starch) yield risk during transition to regenerative agricultural practices.
