At BettaSensing, we are a team of two co-founders. CEO, Dr. Carina L. Gargalo is a chemical engineer, with strong background in data analysis and machine learning, and the CTO, Dr. Noga Gal, an analytical chemist, with knowledge in microfluidics.
We, in collaborative effort of AU, DTU and Carlsberg have been developing the technology for a fast, easy, and low cost food and beverages screening method as an Innovation Foundation Denmark funded Grand Solutions Project.
Our team is supported by Assoc. Prof. Brigitte Stadler (AU), Prof. Krist Gernaey and Assoc. Prof. Ulrick Krühne (DTU) and Dr. Jochen Forster and Caspar Lyhne (Carlsberg Research Laboratories).
Our product is a sensor array that combined with a read-out software and AI analysis, can differentiate beer types by their flavor profile. Carlsberg will be our first customer, as well support our start-up by opening their network. Importantly, out platform can be adapted for different applications and customers. BettaSensing is a strong team, with an innovative product that is embedded in a strong supportive network.
Pure Algae Denmark has developed a controlled land-based cultivation technology for climate-friendly farming of seaweed. Today, seaweed is farmed and harvested at sea or in open ponds on land, which is a costly, manual and physically demanding process.
With our cultivation technology, we want to transform the seaweed industry by bypassing the major problems associated with the traditional methods of seaweed farming, which primarily relates to land use requirements, geography, and changes in seasons and weather. What is more, we also want to address some of the environmental concerns that are often raised regarding the stress that traditional seaweed farming methods cause to the environment (primarily in Asia). More specifically, these concerns primarily relate to trawling, and the carbon footprint that seaweed export from this region lead to. Our product is also unique since it is of extraordinary quality compared to the seaweed that is grown at sea.

We produce meat-substitutes out of locally farmed lupin beans: they are environmentally friendly, organically and locally farmed, becoming greener option for consumers compared to both meat and imported soy products. Lupin beans are also very high in plant-protein and fibre content, while being low in fat, which makes them a perfect base ingredient for healthy and nutritious meat substitutes. Our lupin-based products are innovative, unique, tasty and healthy, all of this while being very low in GHGs emissions.
“Turning food industry by-products into secondary animal feedstuffs via cascade processes in a circular-economy schemes”. This business idea lays over the enrichment and stabilization of the food industry by-products. The application of bioprocessing techniques will allow to turn food industry by-products into high value feeds with enhanced nutritional value. The stabilization process will also foster their feed safety, security, and shelf-life. This will promote the maintenance of food by-products in the food value chain through animal feed application. The proposed solution implies new business opportunities for the whole value chain value as well as diminishing the environmental impacts linked to the production and transport of traditional protein sources used in feed formulations. Additionally, a reduction in the environmental impact of new livestock systems related with savings derived from alternative feed productions, as well as Green House Gases emissions produced from the animals feed, is envisaged.

Kits/rapid methods for the determination of residues of chemical contaminants in food and environmental samples. The developed methodology can be adapted to the detection of different chemicals considering the needs of final users. The response of the kit can be easily measured by portable readers, providing in situ, rapid and low-cost analysis.
