Consumer behaviour, public engagement and co-creation for a sustainable European food-packaging ecosystem

How can understanding consumer behaviour, public engagement and utilising co-creation lead to a more sustainable European food-packaging ecosystem?

Cross-cultural variation exists among consumers in terms of awareness, information gaps, issues and attitudes towards food packaging as related to product choice upon purchase and disposal patterns at home and on the go. Aim of this project area is to knowledge generation to create actions, tools, and strategies that can influence public behaviour and future solutions. With this, the project will be defined to support a transition to a more sustainable European food-packaging ecosystem.

The project will be linked to the InformPack project which adopts a cross-cultural approach while considering country variations related to food packaging across Europe, such as the available product and corresponding packaging market choices; emerging public issues related to food packaging; available systems and preferred public communication means and formats. Using specifically co-creation as a vehicle to generate insights that can be leveraged for targeted innovative actions in the area of food packaging, reflecting issues, public demands, and industry needs in across the EU.

The present project will explore and addresses the questions that contemporary consumers have around sustainable behaviour and to engage users and impact their behaviour by enabling a shift toward more sustainable consumption choices and food packaging disposal cultures.
