From 2025 Danish dairy farmers are required to use methane reducing methods in their production. One tool is the use of methane reducing additives in the feed for dairy cows, which has proven to have a positive effect on the methane emission. However, the response of calves and young cattle is not documented, and neither is the impact on the meat quality of these animals, when they have been fed with a methane reducing additive for a longer period.
In this project you will be evaluating meat quality of beef from calves fed different methane reducing additives inclusive colour, texture, intra-muscular fat and fatty acid composition and compare it with meat quality from animals fed rations without methane reducing additives.
The project is part of a larger project “Green calf” with collaboration with the meat industry.
