The experience of changing your diet

In order to achieve a deeper understanding of how to succeed with dietary changes, research is needed exploring the process of dietary behavior changes; including motivational factors, barriers and strategies to overcome the barriers

In this project, you will zoom in on ‘what it feels like’ to change your diet, and ‘what it takes’ to succeed. At some point in life, most people experience that they are faced with a need to change their dietary habits. This can be for reasons related to health, such are disease prevention or treatment, the desire for better control over food intake, or for reasons related to climate and sustainability.

To change dietary habits, motivation is considered the main driver. Motivation can both arise from the individual itself, but also from external cues, and further, intrinsic motivations cues have been associated with healthy and sustainable dietary behaviors. In order to achieve a deeper understanding of how to succeed with dietary changes, research is needed exploring the process of dietary behavior changes; including motivational factors, barriers and strategies to overcome the barriers.

The student will get a unique view into the life of people, whom are in the process of changing their dietary habits and analyse what is preventing and necessary for success.
